Talk With Your Healthcare Professional

If you are experiencing what you think may be asthma symptoms, schedule an appointment with your healthcare professional immediately. Only a healthcare professional can properly diagnose and treat asthma. Common symptoms may include cough, wheezing, shortness of breath and chest tightness. These symptoms may occur during the day or night. If you do have asthma, the more your healthcare professional knows about you and your symptoms, the more he or she can help you. Asthma requires ongoing treatment that includes regular monitoring of your symptoms. So be prepared to do your part. Work with your healthcare professional to develop a treatment plan that meets your needs and helps prevent symptoms from occurring in the first place. And don't be concerned about asking your healthcare professional for more information or to clarify something you don't understand. When you fully understand your condition and what's expected of you, you'll feel more secure.

Knowledge is power! Your pharmacist, asthma nurse educator and respiratory therapist can also help you learn more about asthma medications and how to manage your asthma more effectively.
